This past Saturday (Oct. 2) marked the 18th installment of
Maritime Martial Arts Academy's Fight Night event in Fredriston, NB, with four of SPKA's athletes
taking part in the event. Dan Watts was the first SPKA athlete to fight on the card, as he represented The
Dungeon Fight Team. Dan took on Walter Muise from Fredricton, who is no stranger to the fight
game. In a very close 3 round fight, Watts came out victorious via Split Decision after showing great heart
and determination in his striking ability. Here were the judges score card tallies for the bout: 29.5 - 29, 29.5 -
29, 28 - 29.
Thomas Dalziel was the second SPKA vet to fight, also representing The Dungeon
Fight Team, as he took on Fabian Doiron. from Ottawa, Ontario who represented 23-time World
Kickboxing Champion, Jean-Yves Theriault. Dalziel came out on top, taking home a Unanimous Decision.
Thomas was able to utilize his punch and kick combinations, along with double pump kicks against his opponent
to secure each round. The judges score card tallies were: 29.5 - 29, 29 - 28, 29.5 - 29.
In the Co-Main Event on the card, SPKA vet, Andrew Dirani took
on Hometown Hero, Eric Cassista of Fredricton in what many named it the Fight of the Night.
The first round saw Cassista use precise punch combinations to keep Dirani on the defensive
to secure round 1 in his favor. Round 2 was a little different than the 1st, as we saw Dirani use his jab as
a pawn to set up his kicks, and he showed great combinations that were able to put Cassista on the defensive
and back into the ropes and the corner, along with good precision in landing numerous body and head kicks.
The 3rd round was very back and forth as both fighters kept a frantic pace up until the end of the round.
In the end, the fight was declared a Split Draw, which was truely the Fight of the Night. Here were the judges
score card tallies: 29.5 - 29 for Cassista, 29.5 - 29 for Dirani, 29 - 29.
SPKA Coach, Mike "Sweet Feet" Trainor took
on heavy handed Steven Whitall in a 5 round Main Event of the evening
which was for the QAKC Super Heavyweight Championship. Trainor secured the first round by showing
great skill with throwing his punches and following up with kicks to keep Whitall on the outside. In the 2nd
and 3rd rounds, Whitall was able to turn the tables and push the pace, giving Trainor two Standing 8 counts (one
in Rd2, one in Rd3), but "Sweet Feet" was able to fight back until the end of the round. Round
4 saw Trainor come out as the agressor, knowing he was behind on the judges score cards. Near the end of the round,
Whitall caught Trainor with a hard hook to the body that stunned Trainor, and was able to catch him with a third
8 count, as referee Jean Guy Thibault stopped the fight, declaring Steven Whitall the
winner and the NEW QAKC Super Heavyweight Champion. Despite the loss, Trainor put on an awesome
performance, and also was awarded an Immediate rematch for the Championship. The bout also marked Trainor's
fourth Main Event fight, and second Championship fight.

THOMAS DALZIEL VICTORIOUS WITH FIRST ROUND KO OF ERIC CASSISTA!
This past Saturday night, the Quebec Amateur Kickboxing Association held
their 12th Night Of Kickboxing event in Sydney, Cape Breton, NS. The event showcased
an 11-bout card, including two Canadian Championship bouts as the Main Events. Taking part in the event was
six SPKA athletes, including SPKA Head Coach Mike Trainor, with the athletes
putting on one heck of a show. The first bout to start things off was SPKA Newcomer, Tyler Baird taking
on Oliver "Sappy" Denny from Sydney School of Martial Arts. Tyler showed his impressive skills by
battling it out with Sappy all three rounds, before losing a very close Slit Decision, despite dropping
Sappy in the first round. In the second fight of the night, SPKA Vet, Andrew Dirani put on a dominating
performance against Dennis Daingneaut from Campbellton, NB., only to lose a very controversial
Split Decision after being wrongly penalised when he threw a head kick that caught Daingneaut, but lost
his balance, in which the referee ruled the off-balance slip as a Knockdown. The third fight of the card showcased
the long awaited rematch from April 2004 between SPKA Head Coach, Mike "Sweetfeet"
Trainor, and the hard-hitting, hometown hero, Steven Whitall from Sydney. Whitall and Trainor
both had agreed(prior to the event) to put on a show for the fans, in which they did not disappoint.
In a back and forth contest, the bout was cut short in the second round as Trainor's nose continued to
bleed without resistance, which caused the ring side doctor to halt the bout, declaring Whitall the winner via
TKO. Joe Revell, Another SPKA Newcomer, stepped up to take on the skilled
Ryan Ellis from MARMAC Athletics of Truro, NS. in the seventh match-up of the night. With Revell
putting on a very impressive performance by pushing the pace, weathering storm after storm, and showing great
counter strike skills, Ellis was shown to be too much for Revell in the closing minute of the third round as the
referee halted the bout, awarding Ellis with the TKO win. Next up we saw returning SPKA Vet,
Mark Ogley in a hard fought three round war against Truro's Chris Boyd of MARMAC Athletics,
in which Boyd won a very close Unanimous Decision. Ogley and Boyd both showed their striking skills, putting
together punch and kick combinations until the very end of the third round, including both competitors
landing a punch at the same time in round two, which visibly affected both men. The last SPKA athlete
to take part on the card was "Flashy" Thomas Dalziel taking on Eric Cassista from Campbellton,
NB. After a brief flurry of strikes, Dalziel caught Cassista with a hard right hook to the face, that dropped
Cassista. The referee stepped in to call the standing 8-count, but Cassista was visibly unable to continue,
awarding "Flashy" Dalziel the KO in round one. Although victory came for only one
SPKA athlete, it was Heart, Courage, and Skill of all Soul Precision
athletes that made an impression on all faces at Night Of Kickboxing XII!

3rd SPKA Fun Day once again a HUGE success!
An afternoon filled with some new and familiar faces, along with a bigger crowd, bigger
match ups, and a new ring area, made up the third SPKA Fun Day. With a 13-bout card set for Saturday,
April 24th, it had EXCITING written all over it. The first match to kick things off was between
two highly touted newcomers. Out of the Red corner, we saw Joe Revell represent SPKA as he took on
Michou Petitpas out of the Blue corner from Charlottetown Kung Fu. In an exciting three rounder,
both athletes put their skills to the test and put on a show. In the second match up, we saw SPKA veteran,
Andrew Dirani take on Danny Watts from Charlottetown Kung Fu in a great display of skills between
the two athletes. Two of SPKA's Junior athletes made up the third match pitting Dillon
Murphy against Ilyas Nasimi. The fourth match of the afternoon saw the return
of Taylor Davies, a former(and now current) member, vs. the highly skilled Kung Fu Black Belt,
Thomas Dalziel in an amazing back and forth, very close match which won over the crowds cheers. SPKA's Tyler
Baird battled Kung Fu's Sam Howard to make up the fifth match that showed no
sad faces. Another pair of Junior athletes made up the sixth match when Andres Sauri,
out of the Red corner, took on Mason C. out of the Blue corner. Kung Fu's Danny Watts returned
to the ring to face SPKA's Mark Ogley in another back and forth match that saw great skill and great heart
between both athletes to make up the seventh match. The eighth match of the afternoon saw
SPKA newcomer, Matt Capicotto take on returning Kung Fu martial artist, Michou Petitpas.
Both athletes gave it their all, and put on a great show for the crowd. After a short Intermission, SPKA's
Joe Revell stepped back into the ring to take on a very skilled Todd Rowsell from Charlottetown Kung
Fu for the ninth match. In a good start in the first round by both athletes, an unfortunate injury
to Joe Revell forced the bout to be cut short. Ian Moher and Andres Sauri put
their skills to the test to make up the tenth match. In a very close, back and forth match up, SPKA athletes
Matt Capicotto and Tyler Baird put on a great sparring match which won the crowd over for an
exciting eleventh match. In the twelfth match, SPKA's Mark Ogley and
Taylor Davies showed off their skills in another great sparring match. The thriteenth match up was
the Main Event, as we saw Kung Fu's Thomas Dalziel take on SPKA's Andrew Dirani in
a 5 round Low Kick match. For the 2nd rematch between the two, Dalziel and Dirani
showed a great display of striking, along with skill and heart, that won over the crowd and earned alot of applause and cheers.
After the bout was over, both athletes gained more respect for eachother and from their fellow athletes,
along with respect from the fans. A very great display of Sportsmanship from all athletes during the
event showed that Soul Precision Kickboxing Academy is the real deal, and we cannot wait for the 4th
Fun Day. For right now, SPKA is focusing on May 29th in Cape Breton!

3rd SPKA Exhibition fun day in the works for next upcoming months!!!!
Coach Mike Trainor has decided to hold the 3rd Exhibition
fun day, and members of Soul Precision Kickboxing Academy will be taking part in this event. In May 2007,
SPKA held its first fun day at their previous location, Stone Park Junior High School,
in which we saw the club members be matched up against eachother in Exhibition style Light
Contact Sparring matches. The event was a HUGE success! In December 2007, the second
SPKA fun day took place at Stone Park as well, and was much to the same type
of event as to the previous one with more success. Sometime within the next month or so, SPKA will
be holding their 3rd event. This event will differ from the previous two though, which instead
of just the members of the club taking part in the event, it is possible that members from the local Kung
Fu club here in Charlottetown may take part as well. Nothing is for certain as of yet, so keep checking back
for more info on the possible SPKA vs. Kung Fu Fun Day!

From September 22 - 29, the International WAKO
World Junior Championships will be taking place in Naples, Italy. A member from SPKA, who
happenes to hold the Junior Canadian Light Welterweight Championship title belt, will be taking part
in the event. That member is Charlie McKinnon. Charlie has been in the sport of Kickboxing for about 3 years now, and
has come a long way. His very first fight was against Ross Mylet of Ontario, in which he lost a tough
3-round Unanimous Decision. After that bout, Charlie sprung back and made impressive and notable wins in charlottetown,
as well as across the Mritimes. Charlie's most recent fight would most likely be his most impressive, yet most notable win,
as he won a 4-round Split Decision bout to former opponent, Ross Mylet. Impressive and Notable
because this would mark Charlie's very first reign as CASK Intermediate Light Welterweight Champion.
Now, Charlie is training hard, and getting himself ready for the obstacles that await him in Italy. Once Charlie is done with
Italy, he will move on to become a member of the CASK National Junior Team.

were 10 bouts in the event in which we saw members from Team PEI Kickboxing with Barry Ogg, Head Instructor, in the fighter's
corners. This exhibition was put on to show the crowd what this sport is about, and to give the athletes a look at what it
is actually like to step into the ring and fight. We saw great sportsmanship, courage, and teamwork in this event which is
what makes this sport what it is. At the end of the event, Mike had awarded all of the athletes and some of the coaches

Breaking News:
From Barry Ogg, Head Instructor of Team PEI Kickboxing;
Hi All, Having given it a lot of thought I decided,
quite awhile ago actually, to close our club, for good ,at the end of June to allow for the expansion of Mike Trainor's
Soul Precision Kickboxing Academy which operates out of Stonepark jr high school. After many years(the last 6 at AFC)
of dedicating 3-4 nights a week, plus numerous road trips,to the task of building the Sport of Kickboxing I feel like I've
accomplished all my goals so it's time to pass the torch and have a well earned rest!..lol...
During the Team PEI Kickboxing years many top athletes have been developed at the competetive level and hundreds
of members have learned the fundamentals of Kickboxing and conquered fears while getting in the best shape of their
lives. With our "family" type atmosphere we have forged many friendships and have learned a lot about our inner strengths
through the challenges we've taken on.The last few years we have become certified clubs through CASK with certified Instructors
and Officials with an outstanding insurance program with the opportunity to compete in a fair and safe manner all across
eastern canada. We also have established recognition from the province as a provincial sports organization and some of
you will be asked to join our board while others will be encouraged to become certified as coaches and officials. Our
Island Inferno Events have put PEI on the World stage of Kickboxing with Pro World Title fights that were filmed for worldwide
TV broadcast.Top Canadian Amateurs want to attend our events as we put on the best shows as indicated by our "best show
in canada" award at the CASK banquet last Feb,in Ont. I'm not leaving the sport entirely
as I'll remain President of the Kickboxing PEI Inc that I established.I'll also maintain my coaching certification and
CASK registration under Soul Precision Kickboxing Academy in case Mike ever needs assistance or a break.I'll also continue to
promote and I'm working on Island Inferno III set for Nov 10th at the Delta.Working on 2 Pro title fights!
This decision wouldn't have been possible had Mike not returned, with my encouragement and prodding,to a sport he loves.Mike
is the only other person right now with the CASK credentials to Instruct at a CASK club or to Coach at a CASK sanctioned
event. This alone still wouldn't have been enough if I didn't feel Mike had the passion, desire and dedication to continue
building the sport.I have tons of respect for Mike and all the confidence in the world that he'll take the sport to even
greater heights.I trust you'll all make the transition to his club a smooth one.He is developing a program to meet everyone's
requirements in the new season. My feeling, with the best interest of the sport in mind as usual, is that one big club
offers more benefits then two medium sized ones. You'll have a greater choice of workout and/or sparring partners. Also
with more members the opportunity to work together on fundraising will allow competetive and non competetive athletes to
go on road trips or take courses with little or no expense to themselves.
With the ongoing expansion of CASK,there are many opportunities to compete and there are two tournaments in September! One
in Nfld and one in Sydney.Mike is setting up a summer schedule to prepare athletes wishing to try out for his team that
he will pick for the events he decides to go to.Others wishing to train are also encouraged to attend. Mike will need
your help too as he's training to be the main event for an Atlantic Title shot in Nfld on Sept 15th.He is looking
for your schedules so contact him at 569-2525 or at roosted55@hotmail.com and he'll do his best to come up with the
best schedule.Book your medicals!Mike will help you sort out the switching of registrations and passports.
In closing I'd like to thank you all for the opportunity you gave me to pass on my love of kickboxing and I hope you'll
continue to train hard. Thanks to all of you that have helped with our events in the past.I'll be calling on you in the
future!I'm always available to you in any way I can help. Please pass this on to any members I may have missed.
